Dog & Cat Licenses

2024 Dog and Cat Licenses:                        web dog collar

  • Registration begins in January, registering dogs and cats for the new year beginning April 2nd.  The deadline is April 1st to register your dog or cat before late fees are applied for any dog or cat residing in the City.
  • Per VT State Statute - all dogs 6 months or older are to be licensed every year.
  • Per South Burlington City Ordinance all cats must be registered annually.
  • Please bring in your most recent rabies certificate - signed by the veterinarian.
  • All dogs and cats who move to the city after April 1st should be licensed with 2 months of their arrival in our City


Registrations may be done by:                                            

  • In Person: by visiting the clerk's office Monday - Friday during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 180 Market St
  • Via Mail: Use the mail-in-form Make checks payable to the City of South Burlington - once processed tags will be mailed to you.
  • Online: Use the mail-in-form and pay by credit card or debit card using this link: https://pay.xpress-pay.com/?pk=3371.  Please be aware there is an additional processing fee that will added at check out for this service fee of 2.8% plus a site fee - once processed tags will be mailed to you.

Fees

  • Please pay the appropriate fee per the chart below to expedite your pet's registration.
  • If your dog or cat is new to the city (here less than 30 days, please refer to the last column in the table below.
  • If you have been in South Burlington longer than 1 month and did not register your dog or cat, please pay the fee under the column for the date that you are registering them on.

*These fees do include late fees and fines for all dogs and cats registered after April 1.

How do I inform the clerk's office of a change in my pet's information?

If you wish to inform the clerk's office of a change for your dog or cat such as a new address in South Burlington, now spayed or neutered, if you've moved from the City, or if you no longer have the dog or cat, or something else please e-mail Holly Rees and report the change.

Top Dog and First Feline Contest

The lucky winners of our 10th annual top Dog and First Feline Contest were drawn on April 17, 2023:

Look for more information each year on the annual contest. There are no entry fees or tickets to buy to enter the contest. Simply register your dog(s) and cat(s) by the deadline of April 1st and they are entered into the contest. The lucky tag numbers will be drawn at the first meeting in April each year during the City Council meeting.
