City-wide Appraisal Process Begins

The City of South Burlington has contracted with Tyler Technologies, Inc to conduct a city-wide reassessment project.  The main focus of this reassessment is to correct inequities between similar properties and level the playing field for the tax paying property owners within the City of South Burlington.

Vital information regarding the project will mainly be posted on the city website at www.southburlingtonvt.gov [AB1] as well as additional notices in the Other Paper and social media beginning soon.  The City Assessor will be the main contact during this process.

In the coming weeks Tyler Technology employees will begin inspections of every property within the City.  The inspections will include addressing the property owners to seek approval to inspect the property.  Questions seeking information important to a reappraisal will be asked and the inside of the property will be inspected.  Property improvements will also be measured and sketched.  Pictures of the outside of the property will be taken.  No internal pictures will be taken.  Multiple attempts to inspect properties will be made to accommodate those who are absent during daytime hours.  Evening and Saturday inspections will be conducted in such cases.

Reappraisal progress updates will be posted on the City website as well as on social media.  Property owners will also be able to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent the City of South Burlington or Tyler Technologies for the reappraisal process.

While property owners are not required to allow access to their property for data gathering it remains a vital component to gathering accurate date and therefore accurate assessments.

The reassessment process can be a stressful event for any property owner.  Please feel free to contact the City Assessor at rtleblanc@sburl.com with questions or concerns.
