Our Drinking Water is Safe

Champlain Water DistrictChamplain Water District (CWD) which supplies the water to our City utilizes a multi-barrier approach to water treatment, including optimized filtration and disinfection.

These processes are effective in removing and inactivating viruses, including COVID-19, and result in a safe and reliable water supply as required by existing State and Federal drinking water standards.

Connected users should continue to use and drink water from their taps as usual.

The Champlain Water District and South Burlington Water Department are considered the first line of defense in public health by delivering safe drinking water to our customers and served systems. As a critical resource it is vital that we do our best to maintain a healthy environment for our staff and customers during times like these with the COVID-19 virus. For this reason, CWD is implemented the following procedural changes to our water operations plans:

  • To protect the health of our employees and their families, the CWD Retail Department and the South Burlington Water Departments are ceasing all customer appointments, that require entry into homes or businesses except for emergencies, until further notice.
  • We are asking all CWD Retail (Colchester Town/Malletts Bay Water Company) and South Burlington water customers to make their water payments via the mail or online at,  https://champlainwater.azurewebsites.net/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=%2F.  If necessary, customers may use the drop boxes located at the South Burlington City Hall (for South Burlington customers) or the CWD Water Treatment Plant located at 403 Queen City Park Road, South Burlington. The customer entrance and vestibule at the CWD Treatment Plant will be closed except for emergencies until further notice.
  • To reduce the financial impact of the COVID-19 outbreak that our water customers may be experiencing, the CWD Retail and the South Burlington Water Departments are temporarily suspending the disconnection process for delinquent payments until further notice. Customers who have received a disconnection notice are urged to contact the CWD Retail Department at 864-7454 or the South Burlington Water Department at 864-4361 to develop a payment plan. Regular billing will continue to all customers.
Please contact the CWD Retail Department at 864-7454 or the South Burlington Water Department at 864-4361 if you have any questions or concerns.
