Not everything is happening on-site at 180 Market Street. Away south in Randolph, Phil Godenschwager working in his studio: putting together glass color combinations on his light board, cutting them out, and fitting them together. Artist and owner of Atlantic Art Glass and Design, Phil’s piece “A Time for Every Season” (working title) is the public art piece selected for the South Burlington Public Library and City Hall.
Each panel of the stained glass clock will sit in a frame (constructed by a Vermont metalsmith) and be back-lit with illumination (by a nearby LED lighting company) so that it glows. Glass leaves will spiral around the face. As part of his process, Phil will fully assemble and test the monumental clock in his studio. Once it is completed, the piece will be carefully deconstructed and packed up for transport. At 180 Market Street, it will be installed on the monumental stair central column. This will be one of the last parts of the project to arrive on site in order to keep it safe!
