Ordinance Regulating Heat Sources for New Buildings Adopted

Last month the City Council adopted an Ordinance requiring that the primary heating for all new construction be from renewable or carbon-free sources. The Ordinance, which also regulates hot water in a phased-in-approach, will take effect for all new buildings applying for Building or Zoning permits beginning on February 15, 2023. Submission of a self-certification will be required prior to occupancy of the building. Adoption of the Ordinance was a recommendation of the City’s recently-adopted Climate Action Plan.
