Commercial On-Site Solar Standards

The City is considering amending its Land Development Regulations to require that new buildings subject to the Vermont Commercial Building Energy Standards (CBES) include the installation of solar photovoltaic systems on site. The standard would be connected to the existing “Solar Ready Zone” requirement of the CBES which lays out standards (and exceptions) for space needed to be reserved and planned for solar installation. The Planning Commission held a public hearing on these proposed amendments on April 25^th and subsequently voted to submit to the City Council. The Council will hold a first reading on May 1^st and consider setting a public hearing for later in the spring.
