City Construction - 2023!

City Construction - 2023!

The orange cones are out and the paving trucks are warmed up. That can only mean one thing: It’s construction season in Vermont! There will be a number of exciting projects happening around South Burlington this summer. Here is a quick overview of work residents will encounter around the City:

  • The State of Vermont (VTrans) is paving Shelburne Road (Route 7). Ahead of paving, the water department will be replacing valves near Brewer Parkway, Laurel Hill, Baldwin Avenue, and McIntosh Avenue. Work on valves will take place overnight and is scheduled to start in early June and finish up by the middle of the month. Property owners that will have water service interrupted as part of this work will receive additional notice once work is scheduled.
  • Waterline work will be taking place in the intersection of Williston Road (Route 2) and Dorset Street. Work will take place over the course of 3 or 4 nights starting on Tuesday 5/30/23. Two lanes on Williston Road will be shut down between 9:00 pm and 5:00 am. Traffic delays during daytime hours are not anticipated, though motorists may be slowed slightly until pavement is restored in the intersection on the last night of the project.
  • Kennedy Drive Pond 2 is getting upgraded. The small stormwater treatment system near the intersection of West Twin Oaks Terrace and Kennedy Drive will get reconstructed starting in early June. West Twin Oaks Terrace will be closed during active construction and a detour will be in place during this time.
  • Work to upgrade the traffic signals on Dorset Street from Williston Road to Kennedy Drive is underway. Motorists should expect minor delays throughout the summer as lanes will be closed to facilitate construction and upgrade of infrastructure related to the traffic signals and crosswalks. Full road closures are not planned. Work to install new mast poles and mast arms will take place at the intersections of Dorset / Williston and Dorset / Kennedy. Work in these intersections is expected to take place in late summer and during nighttime hours. More information will be provided to the public once material delivery dates are confirmed and a final schedule can be established.
  • Two new crosswalks will be installed on Williston Road near Pine Tree Terrace and Mills Avenue. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and minor delays when the contractor is installing the new pedestrian islands. This work will begin in July and last through the end of the summer.
  • Lastly, but certainly not least, paving will take place on numerous streets in South Burlington. Specific dates will be determined over the next few weeks, but work will not begin until late July. Roads scheduled for paving include:
  • Black Lantern Lane (entire road)
  • Butler Drive (Marcy Street to Whiteface Street)
