Roof Top Units at Public Works!

Roof Top Units at Public Works!

On Tuesday , May14, three RTUs, (Roof Top Units) were replaced over the office area at the Public Works building. These were three of the five units that provide heating and cooling to that area of the building and all three needed replacement. This need for replacement provided an opportunity to purchase more efficient units that will provide most of the heat required by a heat pump instead of natural gas which will also reduce the amount of green house gas emitted to the environment. These units also met the requirement for an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant which will cover all costs of the project.

This equipment upgrading is a major part of meeting the City’s green house emission goals documented in the Climate Action Plan. It is worth noting that the new City Hall / Library has not used any natural gas since it has been occupied and the Bartlett Bay WWTP upgrade is expected to be fossil fuel free as well. As units in other City buildings require replacement they will replaced with the technology that maximizes the efficiency and reduction of green house gas emissions.
