South Burlington Rolls Out Second Ambulance

South Burlington Rolls Out Second Ambulance

On July 2, the South Burlington Fire Department proudly announced that the City now has a second ambulance in service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This ambulance will respond out of Station 2 on Holmes Road, where it is housed with the crew of Engine 2.

The City recognized the need to invest in a second ambulance as the medical call volume eventually exceeded one ambulance’s ability to meet the needs of the community. More than 20% of the time, patients in South Burlington had to wait for neighboring agencies like UVM Rescue and Burlington Fire—both also overextended at times—to arrive and transport them to the hospital. Having a second staffed ambulance means shorter response times and an advanced level of care in our City.

The new ambulance staff is cross-trained in fire and EMS, so the department can have additional SBFD members on the scene of fire and hazardous incidents. Having more firefighters on the scene during the initial minutes of a fire greatly increases the likelihood of positive outcomes for life and property protection.
