School Zone on Dorset

School Zone on Dorset

On Tueday, South Burlington Public Works installed the hardware and signage for a new school zone on Dorset Street around the Frederick H. Tuttle Middle School and South Burlington High School. The school zone is in effect from 8:00–9:30 a.m. and 3:00–4:30 p.m. on days when school is in session, with flashing lights indicating the 25 mph speed limit. Outside of the school zone hours, the 35 mph speed limit will be in effect.

Earlier this year, the South Burlington City Council approved a resolution adopting the 25 mph school zone on Dorset Street at the request of the school board and with the recommendation of the Safe Routes to School Task Force. The school zone, associated speed limit, and signage are based on recommendations from an engineering study completed by Hoyle, Tanner & Associates.

Additional improvements—and the paving of Dorset Street from Aspen Drive to Kennedy Drive—are scheduled for construction in summer 2025.
