For many of us, Thanksgiving kicks off the giving season. Many want to volunteer or donate to organizations, by helping others enjoy the Holiday Seasons and by eliminating some stress in someone else’s life. It’s also a time we teach our children that not everyone is as fortunate. Volunteering, donating or giving is a selfless act and not only does it help the charity, but can improve anyone’s self-esteem and self-worth. With this being said we met up with Pedro (Peter) Carmolli, Director of the SB Food Shelf. He gave us a tour and walked us through the process that takes place inside. Without donations and these wonderful volunteers, they simply could not help the SB Community like they do.
Since opening in November of 2019, the SB Food Shelf serves South Burlington residents with the following:
- 75 lbs. of food each month per household
- 117,000 lbs. of per year
- 371 households per year
- 992 people per year
They currently have 8 volunteers work each day and are open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
At this time the Food Shelf is not taking any new volunteers due to the COVID pandemic and are being extremely cautious when handling food. Please consider donating by visiting their website or calling them directly at https://www.southburlingtonfoodshelf.org/
See the attached a list of needs, if you wish to donate.
