Penny for Path Projects - Spring 2021

There are two Penny for Paths projects that are nearing the finish line, and will likely be constructed in the spring or summer of 2021.  Both of these projects were slightly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

AllenRd_5The first is the Allen Road Shared Use Path project that is proposing to fill an 800-foot gap in the City’s shared use path infrastructure.  It will create a 10-foot wide shared use path beginning at the end of existing infrastructure east of Baycrest Drive and follow Allen Road east to Spear Street.  The project will also incorporate a new pedestrian crosswalk and signals with a new sidewalk ramp, narrowing of the right turn lane heading south on Spear Street, and the inclusion of bike boxes on Spear Street.  Staff are working to put this project out to bid soon, and hope to have a contractor in place by the spring of 2021.

The second project is the Airport Parkway Sidewalk and On-Road Bike Lanes project.  This project is proposing a sidewalk on the west side of Airport Parkway extending from the end of an existing sidewalk north of Kirby Road to Berard Drive, approximately 3,100-linear feet.

The project also looks to incorporate a greens trip to buffer users from the road, and on-road bike lanes will be striped.  This project is Phase 1 of a much larger project to continue the sidewalk and bike lanes to connect with existing infrastructure on Limn Kiln Road.  Staff are also preparing this project to go out to bid and it is following a similar timeline to the Allen Road project.

The goal is to have a contractor lined up by the spring of 2021, with construction occurring in the spring or summer of 2021.
