Allen Road Shared Use Project Construction

Allen Road Shared Use Project Construction

In 2017, a CCRPC scoping study was completed and identified a preferred alternative for filling a gap in the City’s shared use path infrastructure along Allen Road.  This approximately 800-foot gap begins just east of Baycrest Drive and extends up Allen Road to the intersection of Spear Street.

At the beginning of 2019, the City initiated a design that would complete this gap in the shared use path network.  The project will create a 10-foot-wide shared use path beginning at the end of existing infrastructure just east of Baycrest Drive and crossing Spear Street to connect with new shared use path infrastructure installed as part of the South Village housing development.  The project is also looking to remove the existing southbound Spear Street right turn lane to improve the crossing’s safety, realign the Spear Street intersection, create a new pedestrian crosswalk with signals and a new sidewalk ramp in the northeast corner of the intersection, and add bike boxes on Spear Street.

The design has been reviewed by City staff and the City’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee throughout the process.  Right-of-Way was completed at the end of 2020, and construction bid documents were released this month.  Staff hopes to have a contractor selected to construct this project with construction slated to begin as early as June of this year.

This project is being funded by the Penny for Paths initiative.
