Bird Banding at Wheeler Nature Park

Bird Banding at Wheeler Nature Park

On May 15th, Mark LaBarr from Audubon VT led a Community Hike on Keeping Track of Vermont’s Birds at Wheeler Nature Park.  He talked about the many ways researchers and community scientists monitor Vermont’s bird populations.  Mark also demonstrated bird banding techniques, as well as new and innovative ways we can learn about breeding and migration dynamics of Vermont’s birds.  This hike helped share what birds are utilizing Wheeler for habitat, as well as what type of habitat is needed to support some of the rare and unique bird species found in Vermont.  The City is currently working with Audubon and the US Fish & Wildlife Service on a project that will improve the habitat at Wheeler for many birds that need it.
