New City Office Building and Public Library Nears Completion

The new building that will house the City’s Public Library, City Hall, City Clerk’s office and a Senior Center is nearing completion.  The building, located at 180 Market Street in City Center, has been years in the planning, development, financing and construction process and will provide an excellent, functional and efficient location for many City services.

The Public Library will be the first to move into the building occupying part of the first floor and all of the second floor of the building.  That move is scheduled to begin on June 18th and will take several days to complete.  The current Library housed in the University Mall will close a week prior to the move to allow staff to pack up books, furniture and other Library resources to move to the new building.  Chief Librarian Jennifer Murry is encouraging all residents who want to help with this process to come by the current Library and check out as many books as you would like which will reduce the number that have to be moved.  Those books will be due back on August 1st

After the Public Library is settled in the City Clerk’s office, to be located on the first floor and City Hall, to be located on the third floor will make the move.  This move is likely to happen during the second week in July.  Throughout the move the City will be posting information on social media and other news outlets alerting residents and visitors to what offices will be open and where those offices will be located.  The City is planning for an exciting Grand Opening of the new building late afternoon and evening on Friday, July 23rd.  Please watch for more information on the Grand Opening.
