Library - Bag n' Wagon Parade Sunday June 13th!

Bag ‘n’ Wagon Parade Sunday, June 13 – Our Library is MOVING – you can help!

Imagine being a part of a parade of families and other library lovers following a big blue choo-choo train across Dorset Street! We invite you – kids, moms and dads, and other library lovers – to our Bag ‘n’ Wagon parade that will start at the temporary library at the University Mall on June 13th and end outside our new Library at 180 Market Street.

With our special guest, “The Big Blue Train” leading the way, the parade will be a walking celebration of our new Library and will also serve as the kickoff for the 2021 Summer Reading Program, “Tails and Tales”, a popular state- and nation-wide program that includes activities and challenges which encourage reading and help to prevent a loss of literacy skills during non-school months.

The fun starts around 10:00 a.m. Park in the garage to enter the mall. Your first stop is the Library!  Kids will provided with a custom tote bag (while supplies last) thanks to our sponsor Mascoma Bank, packed with a few books to help with the move. Adults are asked to bring their own carry bag. Wagons will be loaded with a few more books. “Movers” will then be directed to wait with the Big Blue Train.

The parade will start approximately at 11:00 a.m. The four-block parade will cross at the Dorset Street traffic light at the mall entrance, thanks to help from the South Burlington Police Department and other volunteers. It will end at the new library where everyone will deliver the books to boxes outside of the new building.  The kids’ empty tote bags can then be used to collect their “Tails and Tales” summer reading materials!

The Friends of the Library will offer refreshments at the destination.  There will also be information available about the ASPIRE Campaign for the new library as well as membership in the Friends of the Library.  Thank you to all our sponsors, including the Friends, Mascoma Bank, Hall Communications and NBC 5.

The Library closes to the public at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 11. Any items checked out before then will be due on August 2nd. Stock up now!

Please join us and be part of this fun community event to help us celebrate the move to South Burlington’s new library.
