Hinesburg Road Speed Limit Change

In December 2020, the City requested that VTrans consider a speed limit change along the entire length of Route 116/Hinesburg Road in South Burlington.  As this roadway is a state-owned and operated highway, any changes in speed limit are reviewed and made by VTrans.  VTrans then conducted a traffic engineering study of the location to evaluate the request, and provided the City with their recommendations in August 2021.  These recommendations included extending the 30-mph zone south to Kennedy Drive, make minor adjustments to the 35-40-mph transition south of the I-89 overpass , and extending the 45-mph zone 450-feet to the south to provide greater distance from the Van Sicklen Road intersection.  At the end of August, the VTrans Traffic Committee voted to accept these recommendations.  More recently, new signage has been installed by VTrans along Hinesburg Road, between Williston Road and Kennedy Drive, to reflect the reduced speed limit of 30-mph.  Please take notice of this new speed limit, and keep an eye out for all users of our transportation infrastructure.
