New Crosswalk  -  Coming Soon!

New Crosswalk at Kennedy Drive/West Twin Oaks Terrace Coming Soon

In March 2021, the City of South Burlington was awarded $75,000 from the VTrans Small-Scale Bike/Ped program towards construction of a new crosswalk at the intersection of Kennedy Drive and West Twin Oaks.  Since receiving the award, the City has completed design of this new crossing, awarded a construction contract, and is looking to begin construction at the end of April or early May 2022.

This project will include the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) (i.e. flashing lights for pedestrians using the crosswalk), a pedestrian refuge, crosswalk striping, new signage, and new lighting.  It is an exciting project that will provide users an opportunity to connect to the shared use path facilities on the north side of Kennedy Drive, and both bus stops on either side of Kennedy Drive.

The project is supported by the Penny for Paths fund, is noted on the City’s approved Bike/Ped Improvement Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), and has been a priority project for the City’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee.

Construction is expected to last about eight-weeks, but all work will be completed no later than July 15th.  Traffic management will be involved.  West Twin Oaks will be closed during active construction.  Lane closures will occur during the construction work day (9 AM – 3 PM), Monday through Friday.  Minor delays are expected when the contractor closes lanes on Kennedy Drive to work in the roadway.  Access to residences and businesses on West Twin Oaks is expected to remain open throughout construction.
