National Poetry Month - Wednesday April 27th

6:00-8:00 PM: Celebrate National Poetry Month by coming to the library's state-of-the-art auditorium for a screening of the film "Ruth Stone's Vast Library of the Female Mind," the story of Vermont Poet Laureate Ruth Stone. Following the screening will be a discussion with the award-winning filmmaker, Nora Jacobson.

After tragedy struck, former Vermont Poet Laureate and National Book Award winner Ruth Stone retreated to the margins of the literary world, transforming her grief into poetry, using simple startling language. Jacobson's film, combines verité footage of Ruth at different times of her life, reciting poetry and talking about how she writes, intertwined with lively and heartfelt observations of people who knew her. The film is enhanced with animation by granddaughter Bianca Stone, an accomplished poet and artist, and rare footage of Ruth entertaining students and reciting poetry.
