If you looked up into the sky on Saturday, May 22nd at Veterans Memorial Park, you would have seen kites flying high! South Burlington Recreation put on a Kites In The Park event and it was a great success. With around 50 families coming to join the fun, the sky was lit up with custom made kites that each family designed, built, and then flew them.
With the wind between 10-15mph and the sunny sky, we could not have asked for a better day to fly some kites. Although the wind made it challenging to make the kites and we often spent some time chasing down the unmade kites and materials, it was perfect once built. Some families brought their own unique kites like the fighter jet, shark, or eagle and they raced them up to see who could fly the highest. At one point, if you looked up, there was nearly 15 kites flying at the same time. When you think about a perfect sunny summer afternoon in the park, you might envision what Veterans Memorial Park looked like last Saturday. Thank you to everyone who came and had some fun with us!
