Hello South Burlington,
There is a lot going on in your City Center!
This past week the University of Vermont announced a $22M investment to build housing in City Center. UVM, in partnership with Snyder-Braverman, will build 295 new homes along Market Street in buildings occupying the block immediately adjacent to City Hall, the Library and the Senior Center. These market rate homes will support UVM faculty, graduate students, and staff along with other market rate units. These new buildings will join the three apartment buildings currently occupied in City Center that offer perpetually affordable housing. In addition, these new buildings will include commercial space on the street level thereby further activating our Downtown.
We are excited to see UVM make this commitment to South Burlington and are thankful that Snyder-Braverman continues to bring excellent partners to our City Center. The vibrancy that UVM’s graduate students, faculty, and staff will bring to our community helps realize our shared community goals.
Additionally, last week about 50 of your neighbors joined us at City Hall to view the three concept plans for the East-West Crossing or bike and pedestrian bridge over I-89. And many others have provided input through the boards on display at 180 Market Street. We heard great ideas and feedback on the design options. You can check out the full details of this exciting capital project here and plan to join us on October 13th when the final concept is presented to the community.
Finally, we are working toward our last Tax Increment Financing (TIF) bond vote on Town Meeting Day 2023. We will ask the community to vote on the last debt needed to complete the municipal infrastructure to enable the full development our City Center.
