In December 2019, the South Burlington Recreation and Parks Committee made a recommendation to City Council proposing a new indoor recreation facility to be constructed at Veterans Memorial Park. As envisioned by this committee, the new facility would accommodate four high school basketball-sized courts for various net sports, with one reserved as turf field for soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey training needs. The facility will also include an indoor walking track and house the Recreation & Parks department staff.
Two New Parks- Get out and Play!
Bay Crest Park- Located off of Allen Rd. This park is a great gathering place for those who want to fly a kite, play whiffle ball, or a friendly game of football.
City Center Park- Located at the end of Iby Street. There are many structures that were built with trees that were taken down to make way for many of the looping paths throughout the park. There is great wooden play structure, and several benches throughout the park for those who want take a break and read a book, or bird watch.
Remember when visiting any of our parks, clean up after you and your pets.
Comprehensive Plan
Part of South Burlington's Comprehensive Plan is to develope a safe and efficient transportation system that supports pedestrian, bicycle, and transit options while accommodating the automobile. Also establish a city center with pedestrian-oriented design, mixed uses, and public building and civic spaces that act as a focal point to the community.
In March of 2000 voters approved the creation of a Conservation Fund; establishing a permanent tax in the amount of one cent on the annual city tax rate. The purpose of these funds is to purchase land and rights in land to preserve open land and natural areas in the city. In 2008 the voters approved to modify the Conservation Fund to authorize its original use and in addition allow the fund to purchase land devoted to recreation use in the city.
