This project will reconstruct Market Street - from Dorset Street to Hinesburg Road - as a downtown street. The street was designed in concert with the development of the City Center Form Based Code District.
Funding
It is funded with a mix of funding sources, including TIF District financing. The public voted on November 8, 2016 to authorize the City to obtain a municipal bond to fund the construction of this project. Federal grants have also been secured.
Timeline
The City received a Federal earmark in 2004 and immediately began working on obtaining Federal environmental clearances, the first of which was granted in 2010. Since then, design is nearly complete and the project is in the permitting and right-of-way phase. Construction could begin as early as 2018 and may be completed in by 2020.
