The City of South Burlington is seeking a Director of Public Works—an experienced and engaging leader who can work effectively across the organization, with City Council, and the public.Nestled between the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain, South Burlington is home to over 19,000 residents in the heart of Chittenden County, Vermont. The second largest city in the state, South Burlington is comprised of five districts rich with residential, economic, and recreation vitality.  South Burlington is in the midst of smart growth with its commitment to building a new, urban downtown—City Center. 

Annually, more than 175 employees of the municipality serve the community to make it one of the best places to live, work, and visit. Governed by a City Council of five, and City operations are under the direction of a City Manager. The Director of Public Works reports to the City Manager and manages a staff of direct and indirect reports. The department includes three divisions: Water Quality, Stormwater, and Highway.

Job Summary:
Lead comprehensive municipal infrastructure planning, construction and maintenance efforts for the City of South Burlington. Responsible for the overall administration and supervision of infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, bike and recreation paths; water, wastewater, and stormwater facilities; parks, natural areas, tree canopy, and trail networks; street lights and traffic signals; public facilities construction and cemetery maintenance; and provide professional review and input on all development and subdivision review taking place in the City. Provide direction, professional development, and management oversight to a team of 35 staff. Ensures that all municipal infrastructure systems and financing mechanisms support the needs of the City and comply with local, state, and federal permitting and grant requirements. All other work as assigned.

Finance & Payroll Specialist - Full Time - $61,00-65,000 Range

The Finance/Payroll Specialist is responsible for maintaining financial and accounting records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and procedures, state statutes & legislative requirements, supporting municipal operations, and the general ledger. Position maintains the integrity of record keeping related to the City Center TIF District, including the electronic postings from connected accounting functions (modules) along with the processing of related grant reimbursement submissions, updating & maintaining the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and processing of City-wide ADP payroll. Works in support of entire city financial operations and other related work as required.
