Stormwater Services Maintenance Worker - Full Time

Job Summary and Essential Functions
The individual in this position shall be required to perform manual labor in the operation of stormwater and public works general maintenance and repairs of the city stormwater infrastructure. All other work as assigned.

  1. Performs general and varied maintenance duties and manual tasks in assisting with all stormwater division activities.
  2. Operates trucks of varying size and weight and other equipment of moderate complexity for stormwater division operations.
  3. Performs manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned vehicles, operates street sweeper, mowers and other vehicles or equipment, including the vacuum truck as necessary.
  4. Assists in winter maintenance, operates vehicles providing roadway snow removal and sanding; Plows, sand and salt sidewalks, municipal parking lots as required.
  5. Assists in public works related emergencies as required.
  6. Performs duties in accordance with established safety and operational procedures and techniques, requiring independent judgment in operating equipment.
  7. Makes occasional contacts with other city personnel and with the general public.
  8. Ensures time and work is accounted for on written work orders.
  9. Supports the coordination of activities between all the staff and other departments within the City and performs other necessary tasks or functions as is necessary to accomplish City and Department goals and objectives.

Job Summary:
Lead comprehensive municipal infrastructure planning, construction and maintenance efforts for the City of South Burlington. Responsible for the overall administration and supervision of infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, bike and recreation paths; water, wastewater, and stormwater facilities; parks, natural areas, tree canopy, and trail networks; street lights and traffic signals; public facilities construction and cemetery maintenance; and provide professional review and input on all development and subdivision review taking place in the City. Provide direction, professional development, and management oversight to a team of 35 staff. Ensures that all municipal infrastructure systems and financing mechanisms support the needs of the City and comply with local, state, and federal permitting and grant requirements. Victim Liaison - Part Time 

OBJECTIVE

This position is responsible for reaching out to and supporting victims of crime for the South Burlington Community Justice Center’s Parallel Justice (PJ) program and Restorative Justice (RJ) Panels. This position works closely with the Community Justice Center staff by supporting existing restorative justice services and programs and assisting in the continued development the PJ program.

  • Contact victims of crime in a timely manner and determine what kind of support they need.
  • Contact victims of cases referred for RJ Panels to determine how they have been impacted, what restoration they need, and whether they would like to participate in a restorative process with the offender.
  • Provide victims with information regarding panel meetings, support victims at meetings, and follow up with them regarding case outcomes.
  • Ensure panel meetings address victims’ needs and are inclusive and respectful of victims.
  • Distribute letters and restitution payments to victims.
  • Collect, enter and maintain data for both programs.
  • Schedule, train, supervise, support and develop PJ volunteers.

 Career Firefighter (s) - Full Time

Job Summary and Essential Functions:

Performs fire suppression, emergency medical services operations, hazardous materials mitigation, special operations / technical rescue and fire prevention. Performs maintenance on vehicles, equipment and the fire station. Has knowledge of the National Incident Management System.

  1. Works under the general direction of the Shift Commander or designee to support the efforts and goals of the Fire Department in accordance with departmental rules and regulations.
  2. Performs firefighting activities utilizing fire hoses, heavy stream appliances, extinguishers and ladders and ventilates burning buildings. Is required to wear and use Self Contained Breathing Apparatus to enter extremely hazardous environments and performs search and rescue procedures to evacuate and rescue persons in danger.
  3. Administers emergency medical services and coordinates transport of sick and injured persons. Obtain vital signs, semi-auto defibrillation; patient assessments and other related patient care tasks in conjunction with state approved guidelines.
  4. Performs hazardous materials mitigation at the certified Operations level. Performs Technical Rescues requiring certification in the areas of advanced vehicle extrication, rope rescue operations, confined space rescue operations and cold-water rescue.
  5. Performs daily emergency apparatus and equipment inspections to include minor maintenance and repairs, apparatus and equipment tests, to ensure proper service of all equipment. Conducts daily routine station maintenance in accordance with the established schedule as well as other assigned duties.
  6. Assists the company officer with daily record keeping activities to include computer-based fire and medical reporting systems.
  7. Participates in commercial building inspections in conjunction with the City of South Burlington Liquor License Program. Performs residential building familiarization inspections in accordance with the fire prevention code. Places findings of inspections in written inspection reports.
  8. Participates in shift training and may assume the role of instructor and develop training materials.

Communications Intern (working with the Energy Committee)

OBJECTIVE
The South Burlington Energy Committee is looking for a communications intern to help educate and encourage energy efficiency practices for the community. This position will have the opportunity to shape the 2022 public relations and marketing goals and priorities with the Committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in planning, writing and managing e-newsletters to SBEC email list and articles for South Burlington’s local paper.
  • Update organization Facebook page using with current events, relevant news, etc.
  • Coordinate with SBEC and city staff for providing updates to city managed website page.
  • Help create and promote events to engage the public either in person or virtually.
  • Design event/program fliers, graphics and other marketing material
  • Provide input for creative marketing strategies and social media campaigns
  • Help create and implement an annual communications calendar – including editorial and event calendars.
  • Create online advertisements as needed
  • Create and send out press releases as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
  • Research what other communities do to educate and engage the public on energy and climate issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
  • Experience with or willingness to learn about engagement tools platforms such as MailChimp and Facebook
  • Knowledge of website content management and graphic design a plus.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm for creating compelling marketing materials to support SBEC messaging
  • Self-starter, good time management, creative, with ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team
