Green Up Vermont Receives $64,616

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE from the Chittenden Solid Waste District

Williston, VT – The Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD) announces that the first Supplemental Environmental Project for the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources is approved. The first project is in partnership with Green Up Vermont, which orchestrates Vermont's annual Green Up Day each year. Green Up Vermont will receive $64,616 from CSWD, which will help fund the organization's 2021 and 2022 Green Up Days.

Green Up Vermont is a non-profit organization that fundraises 100% of its operating budget each year to provide free supplies and promotional materials to engage volunteers in all of Vermont's 251 towns for Green Up Day.

“Watching the snowbanks melt away this spring, revealing all of the roadside litter, makes me incredibly thankful that we have the tradition of Green Up Day," said Kate Alberghini, Executive Director of Green Up Vermont. “I am proud to be a part of this organization that not only does a great deal to clean up our beautiful state, but also teaches our residents to take pride in giving back to their communities and builds the mindset that clean, healthy environments are crucial to our future.”

Annually, Vermont's Green Up Day costs $125K to operate. Funds from the CSWD SEP will offset Green Up Vermont's advertising and promotion, supplies, and communications expenses for 2021 and 2022. The savings will allow the organization to divert some of its funds to expand the event, particularly to reach new Vermonters.

“CSWD and Green Up Vermont share a common interest in promoting stewardship of Vermont’s natural landscape through public engagement,” explained Sarah Reeves, Executive Director of CSWD. “We are thrilled to be able to support this beloved Vermont tradition.”
